Over a century of spinning
A history of Dual
Brothers Christian and Joseph Steidinger began manufacturing clockwork and gramophone parts in the Black Forest town of St. Georgen.
The post-war economic boom saw Dual become the largest turntable manufacturer in Europe, commanding a workforce that exceeded 3,000 employees across several factories.
In 1958, Dual unveiled turntables with dual-channel cartridges, leading to devices with four-pole motors and innovative record stabilization for seamless, stackable vinyl playback, epitomizing audio technological advancement.
The 60s saw Dual introduce the first fully automatic, direct idler wheel turntable, Dual 1009. It was considered by many Dual's first foray into Audiophile playing capability.
Model 701 was the first direct-drive turntable manufactured in Europe. It also introduced an innovative new way of dampening resonance (based on springs) before it had a chance to reach the platter, tonearm or cartridge.
Throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Dual introduced audio cassette players, VCRs, CD players, and other consumer electronics.
The 'Golden One' became Dual's flagship model in 1987, combining technology form CS 5000 with a high gloss black plinth and 24K gold plated metal parts.
Under the new ownership of Dr Josef Zellner, Dual launches an entirely new line of turntables, redeveloped & rebranded for contemporary vinyl enthusiasts.
