MUSIC'S HEART BEATS AT 33 ⅓

Step up your sound game with Dual's impressive CS 518 turntable. Records explode in vibrant detail thanks to its highly sensitive twin-gimbal tonearm design, retrieving more information for a richer musical experience. The heart of high resolution music beats at 33 ⅓ rpm, and CS 518 retrieves incredible resolution to give your records an intoxicating rhythm.

CS-518 Hotspot Features:

Statically Balanced

Tonearm

Straight, statically balanced and constructed of solid aluminium, the CS 518 tonearm is its centrepiece, plumbing the depths of your favourite records to deliver incredible music detail – now, and long into the future.

Records explode in vibrant detail thanks to 518s twin gimbal tonearm design, increasing sensitivity to retrieve greater detail from your favourite albums

Plus, audiophile cartridge upgrades are made possible thanks to its solid aluminium construction with precision pivot ball-bearing, anti-skate and counterweight adjustments. Offering you a lifetime of deeper listening experiences.

Anti-skate Adjustment

An accurate spring-loaded anti-skate perfectly counters centripetal force that would otherwise disproportionately increase stylus pressure against one side of the record groove.

Accurate anti-stake adjustment ensures perfect stylus alignment, eliminating distortion, protecting the record, and balancing sound distribution across left and right stereo channels

Finely tuned, user friendly, and compatible with a variety of cartridges and stylus assemblies, CS 518s Anti-skate Adjustment mechanism improves sound quality while preserving the integrity of your precious records.

Aluminium Die-Cast

Platter

An Aluminium Die-cast platter coupled with a heavy, anti-resonant rubber platter mat creates rotational stability while minimising errant mechanical/material distortions. So, you get smoother play with better sound quality.

Meticulously crafted from high-grade aluminium and die-cast to increase strength and rigidity, 518s platter spins upon a hardened steel spindle in a brass bushing. This ensures seamless, consistent operation over a longer lifespan.

A heavy-weight rubber platter mat dampens unwanted platter resonances that distort and stifle your music's true clarity and dynamics. It's also anti-static, protecting both your records and your stylus against dust particulates that degrade them.

Interchangable

Head Shell & Cartridge

Pre-fit, pre-aligned, and prepared for serious sound quality, Ortofon’s 2M Red is a multi-award-winning pickup that plucks high resolution, expressive midrange and loads of musical insight from all your favourite albums.

And Dual's quick-release headshell design simplifies cartridge installation and replacement, making cartridge swaps easy, without the need for complex tools or adjustments.

Plus, cartridge manufacturers cultivate sounds the way winemakers do grapes, making upgrades a tasty thought. Owning multiple headshell/cartridge combos allows you to finely tune your future listening, should you grow into a vinyl connoisseur.

No Phono, No Worries

Built in Phono

CS 518s inbuilt phono preamplifier lets you to connect to the widest range of audio electronics, including 2-channel stereo amplifiers, surround sound receivers, Bluetooth and active speakers.

With the ability to switch between Phono and Line, CS 518 offers inbuilt pre-amplification for systems that don't include Phono inputs, as well as the ability to bypass this internal pre-amplification should you wish to include an external Phono Preamp.

Higher quality Phono Preamplifiers significantly improve sound quality. Thanks to CS 518s switchable inbuilt phono preamplifier, you can continue to enhance your listening experience over the life of the turntable.

33,45, 78

Speed Control

Effortless and wonderfully tactile, Dual’s speed selection dial makes flipping between your favourite records a dream. Sling singles, start a 78 collection, or line up a playlist of LPs. It’s too easy and way too much fun.

33 ⅓ rpm is the conventional speed for 12" vinyl records and the standard speed by which most records are pressed.

45rpm was originally used for singles and EPs. However, these days many high fidelity pressing are recorded at 45rpm, which is said to significantly improve sound quality.

78rpm is itself an entirely different format to conventional vinyl records. They're harder, have much narrower record grooves, and require specific cartridge/styli.

Solid MDF

Plinth

A record player's soaring acoustic talents rest on strong foundations. That's why CS 518 is built using an anti-resonant MDF construction wrapped in a Blackwood or Walnut veneer.

More inert than conventional timber materials, Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) dampens vibrations that colour and distort playback, improving your records' clarity and dynamics.

Resting on four specially designed feet, featuring internal elastomer vibration absorber, CS 518 is not only a 70s style turntable dripping in music tradition, it sounds even better than it looks.

Manual Matters

Fewer moving mechanical parts means cleaner, clearer sound quality. That's why manual turntables (free from the additional parts within automatics) are considered an audiophile gold standard. Combine this with the ritual of handling your records from beginning to end, and manual turntables help to create a deeper connection between you and your music.

Twin Gimbal Tonearm

For the true Vinyl Enthusiast, the CS 518 is equipped with a twin gimbal tonearm design using pivot ball-bearings for optimal precision. This superior tonearm has the ability to guide even high end pickups with the greatest degree of precision and reliability.

Critic Reviews

Stereo Magazine

Well Rounded – Down-to-earth pricing and skillful workmanship: not the worst prerequisites for attracting attention in the hotly contested turntable market. The Dual CS 518 fulfills exactly these conditions while also aiming to set the benchmark in terms of sound.

What Hi-Fi?

Given a little extra budget, Dual’s engineers decided the best way of improving on its entry-level turntable was to change the arm to a more sophisticated twin gimbal bearing design. This new arm promises improved performance as well as greater compatibility with more ambitious cartridge designs than the pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Red.

Sound Stage! Access

What about the sound? In a word, excellent. The 2M Red and Dual brought out all the detail contained in the groove (and there’s a bunch of it) very convincingly. The soundstage was exceptionally broad, and there was good front-to-back depth. The drums, in particular, were a driving force throughout, and they came through my speakers with a terrific thwack when called for.
